The Northern Lakes of Italy (Como, Maggiore and Garda) have been a preferred holiday destination of the British aristocracy during the Romantic Age because of the many villas adorned with beautiful gardens lying along the shores.
In particular Lake Como and Lake Maggiore can boast of many properties such as Villa Balbianello, Villa Carlotta, Villa Melzi, Villa Serbelloni (Lake Como) and Villa Taranto, Isola Bella, Isola Madre, Villa Cicogna Mozzoni, Villa della Porta Bozzolo (Lake Maggiore).
